Why this talk?:
You all three are Managers of the company. As company grows, you will have to shoulder more responsibility. While doing this, you have to acquire different qualities. I am citing my own example as I started my journey same like you and reached to this position. Rajesh could have hired consultant to tell you all these things. But it would have been more expensive. Why to spend when same thing is available for free.? So all the points which, I will be telling you are the principles which I followed. If you like it, try to acquire. If you do not like it, God has given you two ears. Let it enter from one and go out from other. No worries. But one thing I can assure you that you will be benefitted out of this, irrespective of fact if you are in Setco or in some other company.
1. Doers Vs Managers: So far you have proven that you are doer. You can work to the satisfaction of company. But you have followed orders so far. You have done something at the order or request of someone else. Now you have to manage the things. You have to get the things from some one else. You have to take decisions.
2. Owning the responsibility: Now physically you will not be performing or physically carrying out some activity. Some one else will physically act on your behalf, on your order, on your request. But still responsibility of his action lies with you. Responsible for some one else's action is more difficult than actually working with your own hands,
3. Trust the people to the extent that he should think twice before cheating you and if he does, he should carry that guilt for lifetime. Cheating is not always in relation with money. It can be something related to not keeping promise. People will fool you time and again. But still trust the people.
4. Walk the talk: When you say yes, just do it. Do not say yes, when you want to say no.
5. Be open to change. Do not resist change. Change is always for good. Change is short term. Transformation is long term. Change is starting point of transformation.
6. Cash flow is reality. Profits are notional.
7. Act. Action is more important, even if it proves wrong, than not acting at all. The consequences of mistakes out of action is normally of lesser magnitude than not acting. You have to break an egg if you want to eat an omelet.
8. Be proactive and not reactive: Ask question to the situation before it creates questions for you. Do not react if situation creates heap of problem. You landed up to situation because you were not proactive earlier. Do not run away from problems. When you run away from problem you are actually running away from solution.
9. Speak out then and their itself. Do not let things accumulate in your heart. Otherwise it acts as lava. It erupts. It damages front person but it equally damages you.
10. Think on broader scale. Do not let your thought process hover around you and your family. Think beyond that. Think for your colleagues, society and nation.
11. Be open to other's ideas. Do not block your mind that you are only right person in this world. There are many situations where your perception towards it are far away from reality. Or there could be situation where you are also right and other person too. Accept it.
12. Be customer centric to the best possible extent. But do not let it challenge your own being which is honest, integral to the work. Customer is the king but you are not queen.
13. Aim to goal. Simply dribbling a ball will not allow you to lift a trophy. Pushing a ball in to net will.
14. An employee who works as if he is an employer of company normally reaches in top bracket of the company or starts his own business. An employer who works as an employee normally takes company to new heights. Be an employee, be an employer.
